Getting started
How do I get access to the cloud version?
The Campbooks cloud is currently in closed beta, so signing up needs an access code. Email inbox@not-a-camp.com to request one — once you have a code, you can create your account in a couple of minutes.
How do I connect my mailbox?
In the app, go to Settings → Email accounts and connect Zoho Mail, Google Workspace, or Microsoft 365 over OAuth. The connection lets Campbooks read your inbox so it can sort your email and the documents that arrive with it. Full walkthrough: Connect your mailbox.
Which email providers are supported?
Zoho Mail, Google Workspace (Gmail), and Microsoft 365, all via OAuth. Direct IMAP support is planned for a future release.
Is there a mobile app?
Native iOS and Android apps are in the works. In the meantime, the web app is fully responsive and works well on a phone.
Your data & privacy
Where is my data stored?
All customer data for the cloud version is hosted in the European Union (Hetzner, Germany). See our Privacy Policy for the full picture, including processors and retention.
How does Campbooks use AI with my email?
Campbooks sends message and document content to its AI provider only to process it for you — to categorize, summarize, classify, and draft. It does not act on your behalf without your approval. The providers involved and how the data is handled are described in our Privacy Policy.
How do I delete my account?
You can delete your account and all associated data from within the app. Step-by-step instructions are on the Delete your data page.
Self-hosting & licensing
Can I self-host Campbooks?
Yes. Campbooks is source-available, and you can run it on your own server for free. See the self-hosting page, the installation guide, and the source on GitHub.
What's the license?
Campbooks is source-available under the Sustainable Use License (a fair-code license). You can read, modify, and self-host it for free for your own business or personal use. It is not an "open source" / MIT license.
Do I need AI keys to self-host?
The AI features (classification, summaries, chat) need an AI provider. Self-hosted instances configure their own key — Claude (Anthropic) or an OpenAI-compatible provider such as DeepSeek. See AI configuration.
Billing & plans
How much does Campbooks cost?
The cloud version is free during the closed beta, and self-hosting is always free. See Pricing for how the tiers are shaping up.
Will there be paid plans?
Yes — paid cloud plans are planned as Campbooks comes out of beta. Self-hosting will stay free under the Sustainable Use License.
Troubleshooting
My inbox isn't syncing
The first sync after connecting an account reads your whole inbox and can take a few minutes. If it doesn't catch up, reconnect the account once from Settings → Email accounts to refresh the connection.
An account shows as disconnected
This usually means the connection needs refreshing — after a provider password change or a long idle period, for example. Reconnect the account once from Settings → Email accounts.
I'm not seeing AI categories or summaries
AI features need to be available for your workspace. On the cloud this is handled for you; when self-hosting, make sure an AI provider is configured — see AI configuration.
